Central Portugal has much to recommend it. The weather is gentle, the views magnificent, property and land are plentiful and still available at reasonable prices. Portugal 4 Life is an established family business, situated in a small village in the centre of Portugal, between the historic cities of Coimbra, Viseu and Alveiro, We have lived here now for eight years and know the area very well. An interesting project or a ready to move into home? Some of our renovation properties already have floor plans and planning permissions approved. Creative inspiration is required for others. A new project is always exiting and learning who to talk to and where to buy materials is also interesting making you use your Portuguese, although many will often know some English. The local stone is very picturesque and used to build the small stone ruins that are dotted about the picturesque countryside; you will see we have some these ruins ‘ruinas’ for sale on our site. Many restoration projects have incorporated local stone into modern builds. Newer properties often have a ‘villa’ feel to them. Views and Places to Go? The general area is planted with many olive trees, grape vines and fruit trees. In this area of Portugal they have two growing seasons, fruit and vines grow in abundance. The local wines are good, the Douro and Alentejo regions of Portugal produce world famous wines and Porto is famous for its Port. All the cities are interesting often with well preserved Roman history. The Roman city of Conimbriga is very well preserved and just South of Coimbra. The Serra de Estrella – Star Mountain with its snow capped peaks in winter provide stunning back drops to some of our properties that you will see for sale. The Serra de Estrela being a National Park provides activities year round - skiing, walking and climbing for the more adventurous. The highest point in Portugal, this mountainous region of Central Portugal is found to the East towards the Spanish Border. Because of the large outcrops of granite the local houses are often built with granite walls. Portugal has many different regions; it blends the old ways with the new. The elderly working the land in traditional style, the vibrant energy of University students in the old University City of Coimbra, the modern shopping and Atlantic Ocean at Aveiro and the Roman architecture of Vizeu along with the old quaint streets and the tiny villages nestled in the hills..
